Queen’s Park is to become the new Home of the National Cultural Foundation and the national centre of cultural and creative activity in Barbados.
But it will also get a name change.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley said her intention is to transform Queen’s Park so that it becomes a hub for the thousands of school children to pass through the City daily, and who must be able to see dance, drama, arts and painting, among other activities, taking place there as a normal part of every-day occurrences.
She told the House of Assembly today there were plans to build out fresh facilities at the park, including the development of an amphitheatre that will be named in honour of Marcus Garvey and dedicated to the promotion of speech.
For too long, the Prime Minister said, Queen’s Park has had a “pop down” look and it is time for a substantial change.
