On Thursday, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley was conferred with the Honorary Order of the Palm of Suriname by His Excellency Chandrikapersad “Chan” Santokhi, President of the Republic of Suriname.
The brief “decoration ceremony” took place at the Presidential Palace in Paramaribo. Numerous Surinamese and Barbadian officials were in attendance including the Foreign Minister of Suriname, the Speaker of the National Assembly (of Suriname), members of the Council of Ministers (of Suriname), Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office and Director-General in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Barbados.
The citation of the Honorary Order:
“In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the deepening of relations between Suriname and Barbados, her leadership within CARICOM and her unwavering dedication to the advancement of our region, it is my honor to bestow upon Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, to become the bearer of the Grand Cordon of the Honorary Order of the Palm, one of the highest honors of the Republic of Suriname. Prime Minister Mottley, your established service and steadfast commitment inspire us all. May this honor serve as a symbol of our deep appreciation and testament to our nations’ enduring friendship. May I extend my appreciation and gratitude to you Prime Minister Mottley on behalf of the Government and people of Suriname for all your efforts, your commitment, and your achievements not only for the Caribbean but also far beyond the Caribbean region.”
