The Ministry of Housing, Lands and Maintenance intends to achieve 100% of its objectives during 2021-22.

According to Minister of Housing, Lands and Maintenance, the Honourable Dr. William Duguid, one of the major objectives will be the reconstruction of all derelict Government buildings, which will then be turned back over to the State to allow it to reduce its huge rental bill.

Minister Duguid told the House of Assembly this afternoon during the annual debate of the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure that shortly the “Gate House” of the former Barbados Water Authority headquarters in the Pine, St. Michael will be ready for occupation, while the former proposed headquarters of Sanitation Service Authority will be officially handed over to the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Smart Technologies (MIST) shortly.

Also, in line for rehabilitation in the near future are the Welfare Department and School Meals Department buildings.

He revealed too that the ministry was moving full steam ahead to relocate persons living illegally at Rock Hall, St. Philip and already a number of the new homes “are starting to come out of the ground” and in a matter of months “several will be done”.
