The Prime Minister wants to see a considerably cleaner Barbados by May Day 2021.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley made her feelings known about the untidy state of the country as she contributed to debate on the 2021-22 Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure in the House of Assembly this afternoon.

She called on citizens to do all in their power to clean up around their homes and businesses by the time the “workers’ holiday” comes around, recalling there was a time when every Barbadian took pride in the way their surroundings looked.

“We know better,” she said. “We can do better!”

She said there was even a time when residents did not hesitate to clean up neighbouring properties, recognising that while the neighbour “may be living in foreign, the rats are living at me”.

The Prime Minister promised too that the often complained of conditions in the area of the River Terminal in Bridgetown would be getting a major make-over, since vendors must be made to feel that they too can operate in clean and dignified surroundings.

Under the auspices of Barbados Tourism Investment Inc., Baxters Road and the adjoining area at the junction of Westbury Road and Country Road are to be upgraded and beautified, the Prime Minister revealed.
